Rule #4
Say no to 1,000 things
We all get stretched thin at times.
We all get asked for a favor we can't say no to.
We all get overscheduled for too many activities.
We simply say yes when we should say no.
And if you're like me, you find it hard to say no.
Being pregnant with a deployed spouse has given me a little bit of courage and determination to say no, but I still have been trying to do too much with too little energy.
And that's when I realize whatever I am doing is without 100% effort of my heart and mind.
Steve Jobs not only said no to over 300 Apple products and yes to only 10 Apple products, but he also enhanced those 10 Apple products with the skills and energy, the heart and mind of many people.
As I contemplate unplugging from the Internet, I find myself wondering how much of my heart and mind is in the things I say yes to in my offline life.
I am guilty of blogging and being on Facebook when I could be playing with my children, working on writing a short story, finishing a blanket I am crocheting, putting away laundry, writing a love letter to my husband...
Sure I need an outlet, a place to use my 'voice' and explore my ideas in writing; however, it stretches me thin.
I want to say "no" more to my online life and "yes" to my offline world.
I want to see if I will feel richer, happier, more fulfilled, and peaceful if I live a life 'unplugged.'

I'm right there with you. I love blogging and connecting with people online through facebook or twitter or whatever, because being home with my kids is wonderful but I crave different kinds of stimulation.
I'm always complaining i don't have enough time to work on my WIP, BUT I end wasting hours online, reading blogs and leaving comments and what not..
I have been giving this a lot of thought lately, I need to prioritize.
Great post....Steve Jobs was one smart man, and I think you just motivated me to sit down and make a plan for myself ;)
Such wise words. I say 'yes' way too often to my online world at the expense of my off line world.
I feel the same way - a lot of online time would be better spent offline!
Hi Kim,
What a great series! I only just discovered it, because I've been kind of unplugged myself lately.
I especially like Rule #4!
I know exactly what you mean. You read my post a few days ago, so I'm all for unplugging as long as you need to. Life has to come first.
It's hard to say no but I remind myself to get my priorities right. And when I do get my priorities right, saying no doesn't seem so hard.
